Washington CNN —President Joe Biden spent three days this week campaigning in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania. (The White House corrected the official transcript of Biden’s speech to make clear Biden should have said 2025 instead of 2024.) In other words, there will clearly still be some big and profitable corporations paying no federal income tax despite the existence of the new Biden tax. The center found that the top 0.1% of households paid an average effective federal tax rate of about 30.3% in 2020, including an average income tax rate of 24.3%. “The deficit is a trillion dollars lower, roughly, than when President Biden took office.

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — When Jay Norvell threw shade at Deion Sanders for wearing sunglasses during interviews, Coach Prime responded by handing out some of his signature shades. Sanders passed out pairs of Prime 21 sunglasses to his players during a team meeting — “I just want to see how y'all look in 'em. Before big games at Oregon and against USC, Colorado hosts Colorado State (0-1) on Saturday night, and during his weekly radio show, Norvell took a swipe at Sanders' habit of wearing his cap and sunglasses during media interviews. Howard called it petty for Norvell to complain about Sanders wearing sunglasses or a hat and never should have brought anyone's mother into the discussion. “If you know Deion Sanders, not even Coach Prime, but if you just know Deion Sanders, he's really, really close to his mom.

Place one hand on the wall in front of you, and then put the opposite foot on the wall behind you. This is how a convicted killer escaped from a prison near Philadelphia nearly a week ago, according to surveillance video released by the authorities on Wednesday. After that, officials said, he pushed through razor wires — installed after the previous inmate scaled the same wall — before reaching the prison’s roof. He ran across the roof, scaled a fence, pushed his way through more razor wire, and has eluded the police ever since. He added that officials should have further “bolstered” the prison’s defenses following the previous escape attempt.

His son Matthew Arkin said that Mr. Arkin, who had heart ailments, died at home. Mr. Arkin was not quite a show-business neophyte when he was cast in the 1963 Broadway comedy “Enter Laughing,” Joseph Stein’s adaptation of Carl Reiner’s semi-autobiographical novel about a stage-struck boy from the Bronx. He had toured and recorded with the Tarriers, a folk music group, and he had appeared on Broadway with the Second City, the celebrated improvisational comedy troupe. In a cast that included established professionals like Sylvia Sidney and Vivian Blaine, Mr. Arkin stole the show and won the hearts of the critics. “‘Enter Laughing’ is marvelously funny, and so is Alan Arkin in the principal role,” Howard Taubman wrote in The New York Times.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — He was an amateur photographer who loved skateboarding and watching sunsets darken the woods and ponds of his adopted hometown. RowVaughn Wells, mother of Tyre Nichols, cries at a news conference in Memphis on Monday. Photographing sunsets at Shelby Farms Park, an expansive green space in Memphis, was another passion, she said. Adnan Syed, whose murder conviction was tossed in September after he served 23 years behind bars, has been hired by Georgetown University to work on prison reform. Syed's job as a program associate for Georgetown's Prisons and Justice Initiative is his first 9-to-5 office job, according to the university. Part of Syed’s job will include supporting Georgetown’s "Making an Exoneree" class, in which students re-investigate wrongful convictions, make documentaries about the cases and help free innocent people. In the year leading up to his release, Syed had taken part in Georgetown’s Bachelor of Liberal Arts program in prison. An attorney for Lee's family did not immediately respond to an inquiry Friday seeking comment about Syed's job with Georgetown.
High-functioning depression is a colloquial term and not a technical clinical diagnosis, explains Rheeda Walker, Ph.D., psychologist and leading researcher on suicide in the Black community. Persistent depressive disorder is another official diagnosis that, for some patients, may include high-functioning depression, Walker says. But she also stresses that because high-functioning depression is not a technical diagnosis, she’s hesitant to say they’re the same. But a 2021 study indicates the Black suicide rate is likely higher than documented because the manner of death is often misclassified. If you’re concerned about a loved one attempting suicide, Walker notes that anxiety is “as strong a predictor” as depression.
Orion, as NASA’s new space capsule is called, made another pass by the surface of the moon Monday morning, capturing views of notable lunar sites, including a couple Apollo landing sites. The spacecraft then passed just 80 miles (128.7 kilometers) above the lunar surface, its second close flyby of the moon. Orion separated from the rocket after reaching space and has since been on a journey circumnavigating the moon. The NASA Orion capsule captures a view of the "Earth rise" as it emerges from the far side of the moon. All told, the Orion capsule will have traveled more than 1.3 million miles in space.
CNN —The NASA Orion spacecraft, the core of the Artemis I mission, is making a farewell pass by the moon on its historic journey before heading home to Earth. The Orion spacecraft is now expected to take another lap around the moon. That will mark the end of the historic Artemis I mission, which kicked off when the Orion spacecraft launched atop NASA’s new Space Launch System, or SLS, rocket on November 16. If the Artemis I mission is successful, NASA will then look to choose a crew to fly on the Artemis II mission, which could take off as soon as 2024. Read more: The big numbers that make the Artemis I moon mission a monumental feat‘Outstanding’ performanceThe spacecraft’s performance during this mission has been “outstanding,” Howard Hu, the Orion program manager, told reporters Monday evening.

For more than a year, Starbucks has been testing how to overhaul operations to improve the experience for both employees and customers. If employees spend less time running around, executives said, maybe they will be happier working there. “It’s the complexity of those cold beverages,” Howard Schultz, interim CEO, said in a recent interview. “We will fix that. We will design new stores from scratch.”
